Pen-y-Fynnon was a farm where the Moor Allerton Centre now stands. The farm was demolished circa 1950s around the time that the Saxon estate was built. The area used to be a fen-like marsh. Pen-y-Ffynnon is a Celtic name meaning Spring by the Hill or Hill Head Spring. By the time of the 1861 Census, and probably a lot earlier, it was known as “Penny Found”. The neighbouring farm was known as “Halfpenny Lost”.
