Elizabeth Bainbridge was born on 9 September 1824 to George Peacock Bainbridge and his wife Elizabeth. She was baptised on 12 Sep 1824 at Saint Michael’s, Spurriergate, York. Elizabeth married Joseph Barton Carter on 10 November 1857 at Saint Laurence’s Church in York. Joseph was a widower with four children. Elizabeth went on to have three children of her own:

  • Gertrude Elizabeth (1859-1938)
  • Darcy Bainbridge (1859-1902)
  • Eustace George (1862-1944)

Elizabeth’s husband Joseph died on 1 January 1897 and her son Darcy died on 5 February 1902. At some point Elizabeth moved to 88 Potternewton Road (Whinfield Mount) where she died on 12 April 1910 aged 85. She was buried with her husband in St Matthew’s churchyard on 14 April 1910.
