Mary Buckton was born on 18 June 1845, daughter of James Buckton and Elizabeth. She was baptised on 20 July 1845 at St Matthew’s in Chapel Allerton.

In 1851, according to the census, Mary was living with her father, James, who was a widower at this stage along with Henry (22), Thomas (17), Louisa (14), Ann (8) – the three girls all scholars. They also had a housekeeper, Susan Chadwick.

In 1861 I think Mary was working as a servant in a house in Headingley but the census record needs some careful reading to work this out.

At the time of the 1871 Census Mary was working as a servant in the household of James Butler Waite, an Estate Agent who lived on Harehills Lane.

Mary married William Watson on 28 December 1873 at St Peter’s Church.

Mary died on 17 April 1922 and was buried on 20 April in St Matthew’s churchyard.
