Benjamin Clarkson was born on 14 June 1781 in Burley, Leeds to John Clarkson and his wife. He was batised at St Peter’s Church on 8 July 1781.

He married Frances Chapman and they moved to Woodhouse where they had a daughter called Frances Sarah who was born on 24 July 1830. Frances’ baptism record at St Mark’s, Woodhouse shows that Benjamin was a Stone Merchant.

The 1841 Census shows Benjamin, aged 60 working as a Stone Merchant, Frances his wife aged 45 and Frances his daughter aged about 10. They were still living in Woodhouse.

Benjamin died on 10 August 1846 aged 70 and was buried in the churchyard at St Matthew’s on 17 August 1846. The burial record suggests that they had moved to Moor Allerton.
