Elsie Kate Faulkner was born on 9 November 1885 to Benjamin Faulkner and Amelia, She was christened on 25 March 1886 at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Chapel Allerton, the register shows that the family were living at 18 Woodland View in Chapel Allerton.

The 1891 Census shows that the family were still living at 18 Woodland View and that Benjamin was a “School Master”, Elsie was the youngest of three children aged 5. Her oldest brother, 19 year old Ernest, was a “Banker’s Clerk”.

By the time of the 1901 Census, the family had moved to 4 Hawthorn Mount. Benjamin was still working as a School Master, Ernest was still living with his parents aged 29 and working as a “Bank Clerk”. Elsi was now 15 years old.

Elsie was still living at 4 Hawthorn Mount with her widowed mother when she married Edgar Turenne Oates at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Chapel Allerton on 22 June 1910. Edgar was a Bank Manager. The couple had no children.

The 1911 Census shows that the couple were living at 12 Methley Drive in Chapel Allerton with Elsie’s widowed mother, Amelia.

Just after the war, Elsie’s husband, Edgar, was shot dead in a bank robbery on 11 December 1919.

Elsie remarried in October 1935 to Louise Noble Gilbert. The couple were living at 759 Scott Hall Road at the time of the 1939 Register, Louise was a “Master Butcher Wholesale & ??? & Dairy Farmer on own account”.

Elsie died aged 77 years on 26 February 1963 whilst still living at 759 Scott Hall Road and was buried in the graveyard at St Matthew’s in Chapel Allerton on 1 March.
