John Kitchingman was born on 25 October 1743 in Chapel Allerton, the son of John Kitchingman. He was baptised on 26 October 1743 at St Matthew’s Church.
He married Martha Foster on 23 December 1783. The records show that he was a shoemaker. John and Martha had the following children:

- Dinah (1787-1847)
- Levi (1788-1852)
- Elijah (1790-1818)
- Sabra (1792-1795)
- Adah (1793-1840)
- Cornelius (1795-1854)
John’s wife, Martha, died on 11 March 1818 closely followed by his son Elijah on 30 March 1818. John then died on 8 April and was buried on 12 April 1818 in the graveyard of St Matthew’s.
