Joseph Medley was born about 1759.
Joseph appears to have married Mary Storey on 25 February 1811 at St Peter’s Church in Leeds but their eldest daughter, Mary Storey Medley, is recorded as being born about 1803. Joseph and Mary had at least two other children:
- Anne (born 13 Nov 1812)
- Esther (born 30 Jun 1814)
From about 1809 Joseph leased a property from Earl Cowper, probably Newton Lodge, as his home.
Joseph was an oil merchant and drysalter working in a partnership as “Medley and Backhouse” with premises on Albion Wharf (1837).
Joseph died on 2 January 1840 and was buried in the churchyard in Chapel Allerton.
