Eleanor Shillito Eyres was born about 1828 in Stepney, London to John Eyres and Hannah (nee Shillito). She was baptised at Saint Dunstan Church in Stepney on 30 November 1828.
The 1841 Census shows that Eleanor was 12 years old, living with her parents and siblings on “Upperhead Row”. She married Robert Chapman Garland on 12 April 1849 at St George’s Church in Leeds. The marriage certificate shows that Robert was a builder living at Springfield Place. Eleanor was 20 years old living at Upper Head Row and she was the daughter of John Eyres, grocer.
Robert and Eleanor had the following children:

- John (1851-1893)
- Mary (1852- 1926)
- Helen (1857-1864)
- Henry (1860-1843)
Eleanor died in December 1884 and was buried in the graveyard of St Matthew’s Church in Chapel Allerton on 27 December 1884.
