Ellen Sophia was the daughter of John Procter Calvert and Jane nee Butterworth. She was born on 7 September 1848
Ellen married Joseph Chadwick at St Peter’s Church in Leeds on 18 August 1869 and they had the following children:

- Joseph Gilbert (1871 – 1928)
- Alice (1877 – )
- Percy (1879 – 1937)
Ellen died on 28 April 1925 in Scarborough and was buried with her husband in the churchyard at St Matthew’s in Chapel Allerton.
