Joseph Gilbert Chadwick was born on 24 June 1872 to Joseph Chadwick and Ellen Sophia (nee Calvert). The family were living on Spencer Terrace in what is now Chapeltown. Joseph was baptised on 22 July 1872 at St Peter’s Church in Leeds.
By the time of the 1881 Census the family had moved to Normanby Villa in Chapel Allerton which I think is near or part of Newton Villas. Joseph was an 8 year old scholar.
In 1891 Joseph appears to have been known as Gilbert and was lodging at 72 Bruce Street in Wortley with his older brother, Arthur. They were both recorded as Mechanics Apprentices.
Joseph died on 25 February 1928 at the General Infirmary in Leeds and he was cremated at Leeds Crematorium with his ashes being enclosed in an urn and buried at the grave of his parents in the churchyard at St Matthew’s in Chapel Allerton. His final address is recorded as 114 Seamer Road in Scarborough.
