Charles was born on 9 March 1830 to William Pollard and Susannah (nee Smith) at Allerton Grange. He was baptised at St Matthew’s on 22 August 1830.

The 1841 Census records Charles as 11 years old living with his family. The 1851 Census shows that he was 21 and working as a clerk – I think for “Allerton Woolen Cloth”.

Charles’ father died later in 1851 and his mother died in 1860. The 1861 Census shows that he is still living at Allerton Grange with his older brothers William and John. Charles was working as a “Woollen Cloth Merchant”.

By the time of the 1871 Census Charles was 41 years old and living with William and Joseph on Lidgett Lane, presumably still at Allerton Grange. He was now working as a “Land Agents Clerk”, presumably for William.

In 1881 the Census shows that Charles is now the head of the household, his older brother Joseph was living with him off “Income from Interest of Money”. Charles is recorded as still working as a “Land Agents Clerk”

By the time of the 1891 Census both Joseph and John had died. Charles was still living at Allerton Grange with his widowed younger sister, Eliza, and her son Frank. Charles was 61 years old and his occupation was “Land Agents Assistant”.

The 1901 Census shows that Charles was now living “partly on own means” and also as a Land Agent’s Assistant. He was now a boarder in a house on Shadwell Lane, the home of William Wilson, a 49 year old joiner, undertaker and carpenter.

The 1911 Census showed that Charles was still working as an “assistant land agent in office work” at the age of 81 and still living on Shadwell Lane as the board of William Wilson.

Charles died on 5 April 1813 at The Elders on Shadwell Lane. He was buried on the 9 April in St Matthews’ graveyard.
